SILENT SUNDAYS AT
SOUTH MOUNTAIN
Creating safer, car-free roadways for cyclists, runners,
and families across Arizona.
HOW SILENT SUNDAYS IMPROVE SAFETY

Following Rob’s passing at South Mountain Park in 2017, the Rob Dollar Foundation has worked alongside local leaders to improve safety for cyclists and the broader community.
One of the most impactful outcomes is the expansion of Silent Sundays—a recurring road closure that creates a safer, car-free environment during peak riding hours.
By reducing vehicle traffic, Silent Sundays help prevent avoidable accidents and give the community a dedicated space to move safely and confidently.
REAL IMPACT AT SOUTH MOUNTAIN
Silent Sundays now provide consistent, protected time on the roadway—giving thousands of cyclists, runners, and families a safer way to experience the park.
These efforts have contributed to ongoing safety improvements, including roadway enhancements, dedicated bike lanes, and increased awareness of cyclist safety among drivers.
This is what safer roads look like in action.
WHEN SILENT SUNDAYS TAKE PLACE
Silent Sundays create dedicated, car-free time at South Mountain Park.
Full closures take place on the fourth Sunday of each month, with partial closures during early morning hours on other Sundays to reduce traffic during peak riding times.
These scheduled closures balance park access while prioritizing safety where it matters most—on the road.
