The Rob Dollar Foundation is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) that was created by family and friends of Rob Dollar, who tragically lost his life on October 29, 2017. While out on a Sunday ride, he was hit and killed by a motorist. Even though the foundation was created by his family and friends, this was a dream Rob shared with his father and a few close friends. Following his untimely death, it was only right to establish the Rob Dollar Foundation to support the community that Rob cared so deeply for.
Now in our 8th year, the Rob Dollar Foundation remains dedicated to our mission: to save the lives of cyclists through education, legislation, and community events. Every mile we ride is in memory of Rob and in honor of every life that should never be lost to unsafe streets. Along the way, we’ve been fortunate to partner with incredible individuals, cities, and companies who share this vision. Together, we’ve built meaningful impact over the past eight years—and we’re just getting started. |
Core Pillars
CommunityOur priority is Road Safety.
In Phoenix, there have been over 450 bicycle-involved collisions in recent years. In collaboration with city and state leaders, cyclists, and universities, the foundation is the driving force behind change. From signage to safer bike lanes and innovative technology development, we pledge to make roadways a safer place to bike. |
EducationIn addition to road safety, significant improvements for the safety of bicyclists can be achieved by enhancing bicycle safety education, increasing helmet use, implementing and using bicycle facilities, and community involvement to promote bicycle safety.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) indicates that Arizona is 47th in the nation in terms of the amount of federal funding spent on addressing causes of traffic fatalities on Arizona roadways and supporting preventative programs to increase cyclist awareness of road safety. The Rob Dollar Foundation works with law enforcement agencies, cycling clubs, and universities to promote bike safety and education. |
AdvocacyIn Phoenix Arizona, as in many major cities, bicycle laws already exist and they are designed to protect the cyclists on the roads. However, limited funds and education often prevent the enforcement of these laws.
Law enforcement plays an essential role in supporting bicycle safety by reminding the public about the legal rights and duties of road users. A police force that is more knowledgeable about best bicycling practices is more confident when dealing with bicycling issues, improves the environment for bicycling, and ultimately reduces bicyclist crash rates. Police training programs that explain effective traffic law enforcement practices for bicyclist safety should be included in any community’s strategy for improving bicycle safety.
